You love your work but it has all become too much

by Erika Verhoeven

In this post I’d like to explain what the trap is when you are working in support of others.

You are a coach, health care professional or healer and people look at you for that perfect work-life balance. If you are struggling to hold it all together yourself it is time to get help as it is in your innate love for ‘giving’ and always putting others first where the trap lays to slide into exhaustion.

If you do it long enough you will inevitably reach a state of feeling burnt-out.

Of course, you know how to solve it, but once you become that exhausted and everything around you is just an entangled mess, it is hard to see the trees for the forest. If that is you then it is time to put yourself first!

Once you have filled up your own container and learned how to keep it full (enough), you will be able to serve others much better.

In my experience you need a 2 faceted approach and this is how I work with my clients:

As an intuitive coach, healer and channel I help my client to address the inner work: we uncover what is underneath the limitless giving. We look at unhealthy boundaries. And we look at what is underneath that prevents you to look after yourself in a way you know you should. We dig it up and we heal it.

The second part is that through very practical coaching we address how that internal state has produced the external entanglement:
Where does your life not flow anymore? What needs to be fixed, eliminated, grown? We look at where your home, your admin, your relationships etc. need attention.

Once you have healed the underlying causes of unhealthy patterns and have cleaned up the practical outcome of those, it is time to define clear intentions:

How do you want your current life to be?
What sort of future would you like to create?

Then we create an action plan.

This is a process that you don’t have to figure all out by yourself. Getting another expert to take you by the hand and guide you through this process at a pace and a timespan that suits you, is the best thing you can do for yourself and your clients.

I hope that this post helps you to understand how easily ‘giving’ can get out of hand, where we lose ourselves and risk burnout, and also how to turn the tide in time.
